Last night we held a very pleasant social evening for volunteers as a way of thanking them for their invaluable contribution to the life of the Society. In spite of the chilly weather, at least 20 people came along, as well as four members of the Board. Volunteers help us in many ways: bookbinding, serving on the coffee hatch, at events such as lectures and readings, the book sale, stuffing envelopes and distributing leaflets. The more we do, the more we realise how much we couldn’t do if it wasn’t for our band of helpers. So thanks to them!
Two weeks ago we sent out invitations to members and guests to attend our 220th birthday party which is taking place on 7th February. We’ve had a marvellous response and are looking forward to a full house on the 7th. There will be (a big) cake.
We end the week on a musical note with two concerts – a clarinet and piano recital at lunchtime today, and a piano recital on Saturday evening with Adam John Taylor. Do come along.
